Conor Mc Grenra, John Callan, Ronan Mc Gowan and Corrie Lee Bogan are the founders of "Donegal Bat Boxes”. The group are committed to offering comfortable, safe and secure homes to the endangered bats of Donegal. They also are interested in highlighting the huge benefits Bats are to the community. The group became aware of bats and their need for a secure dwelling place when Conor heard about the value of bats on his uncle’s farm.
Contrary to popular belief, bats are actually friendly, useful creatures.  Although they may not be the cutest creatures in the animal kingdom, bats are extremely helpful to humans playing an ecological role that is vital to the health of natural ecosystems and Donegal farmers. They consume vast amounts of insects, including some of the most damaging agricultural pests. They also disperse seeds: Bats help to restore lost or damaged forests and are more effective seed dispersers than birds and even bat droppings (called guano) are valuable as a rich natural fertilizer.
The Government supports the conservation of bats with a new initiative called the GLAS Agri-Environment Scheme. They offer grant aid to farmers to erect bat boxes on their land
